The American Academy of Pediatrics encourages children ages 6 months and older to get the COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine series consists of two doses, separated by 21 days. The pediatric dose is a smaller dose than the adult dose. In clinical trials, vaccination was nearly 91% effective in preventing COVID-19 among children aged 5-11. Vaccine side effects were mild, self-limiting, and similar to those seen with other vaccines recommended for children.
