IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR OUR 2025 COLLEGE BOUND PATIENTS!
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) and The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends all adolescents from age 16-18 who will be attending college in 2025 receive two doses of Men B to help protect against meningitis. Your adolescent may have received at least one Meningitis B vaccine (men B) to date.
New Canaan Pediatrics offers the Bexsero Men B vaccine. The requirement for administering the vaccine is to have the two doses be administered at least 6 months apart. This means if your child has not received any Men B to date, they will need to get two doses before early August when most freshman leave for college.
To help our families meet this recommendation, we are offering a clinic for our Men B vaccine on Saturday, February 8th. Before you sign up for the clinic, check your child’s immunizations in your portal to see the status of the
Meningococcal B OMV (Bex) vaccine (towards the bottom of the vaccine list).
- If you see there is one date and it has been at least 6 months or longer you may sign up for the clinic.
- If there is only one date and it is not 6 months from that date and you have a well visit scheduled before August, make sure you receive it then.
- If no Meningococcal B OMV(Bex) vaccine is listed then sign up for the clinic and we will be having another one in August.
- If you see two dates for the Meningococcal B OMV (Bex) you are all set.
