When faced with the choice of a medical specialty I reflected on the fact that at the time my father, a pediatrician in New Canaan, had been practicing for twenty-five years and still enjoyed going to work every day. Pediatrics had to be very special; and now, after I’ve been practicing for twenty-five years in New Canaan, I know it was a great choice
My parents moved to New Canaan when I was two years old and my father started a pediatric practice within the New Canaan Medical Group which at the time was a handful of Internal Medical doctors. I attended South School, St. Aloysius School, and then went on to Fairfield Prep. After high school, I attended the University of Notre Dame and then Georgetown University School of Medicine. I was on a military scholarship in medical school and afterward did an internship at Bethesda Naval Hospital followed by Naval Flight Surgery School in Pensacola, FL and then spent three years as a Flight Surgeon attached to Carrier Air Wing Six on the USS Forrestal.
When my tour in the Navy was up I did a pediatric residency at Yale New Haven Hospital followed by a Chief Residency in Pediatrics at Yale School of Medicine.
I finished my Yale years with a unique opportunity to teach pediatric residents at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyad, Saudi Arabia.
In 1995 I moved back to New Canaan and started practicing pediatrics at the New Canaan Medical Group. My father retired a few weeks after I started and I still enjoy going to work every day.
My wife Marnie, a Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, and I live with our three wonderful daughters in New Canaan.

I went to medical school with the intention of becoming a pediatrician, not just a physician. I knew I wanted to work with kids way before I realized I wanted to be a doctor. During the year of medical school that you rotate through all the different specialties, pediatrics was my last rotation. I was getting a bit uneasy because none of the other fields tempted me at all. Luckily, I was right and loved pediatrics.
I grew up in Queens and didn’t venture far for college. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Queens College with a BA in biology, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. I changed boroughs for medical school, going to Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. I did my pediatric residency at Montefiore Hospital, part of Einstein College of Medicine. I was fascinated by the incredible changes that take place as children go from birth to adulthood, both physically and psychologically, and therefore went back to Columbia for a Developmental and Behavioral Pediatric Fellowship. During that time, I also worked in the General Pediatric Group Practice there. After completing the two-year fellowship, I joined the wonderful group of doctors in the New Canaan Medical Group/New Canaan Pediatrics. I very much enjoy taking my time with my patients so as to get to know them and their families better and enjoy fostering those relationships over the years.
I live in New Canaan with my husband, and our two children happily grew up here.

My path to becoming a pediatrician was a somewhat winding road. Having preferred math and science throughout my school years, I entered college as a chemical engineering student. I found that engineering wasn’t my true calling; having taken chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics, I thought that if I wanted to explore being pre-med the only prerequisite I was lacking was biology, and obviously the rest is history. Similarly, as I progressed through medical school I tried to pay attention to what specialty was calling to me, and hands down it was pediatrics. I find it so rewarding to help families maintain their children’s health and to be there for them to help get their children well when they’re sick or injured. I grew up on Long Island, attended the University of Pennsylvania undergrad (from which I graduated with a BA in Biology), then attended SUNY Downstate medical school where I was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. I did my pediatrics residency at Children’s National Medical Center, then spent an additional year there as an Emergency Room associate. After that, I moved to Connecticut in the summer of 2001 and started at New Canaan Pediatrics. I live in Wilton with my twins, Jack and Ella. You’ll have an opportunity to check out their artwork in my exam rooms. 🙂

I came to New Canaan Pediatrics in 2017 from a long career as a Pediatric Emergency Medicine physician at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. I attended Princeton University and SUNY Downstate Medical School and did my residency at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington DC. I felt compelled to move back home to NY in 2002 after the 9/11 attacks to be close to family and my home city. This led me to what I thought would be a one-year transitional position in the Pediatric ER. But it was 15 years later that I was given the opportunity to join New Canaan Pediatrics when Dr. Harrison Pierce was retiring after over 40 years of service to the community.
I knew that I had very big shoes to fill following Dr. Pierce but I always just tried to be myself. The community and families were incredibly welcoming to me. The greatest change for me was to go from being an anonymous ER doctor to being the person families look to time and again for guidance. I believe I bring to primary care pediatrics a slightly different skill set as primarily a diagnostician based on my ER background. But I have truly come to enjoy developing the longevity of the patient-doctor relationship. I am a huge proponent of shared decision making in medicine between doctors and families and always try to treat my families as I would want my own family to be treated.
I live in Stamford with my amazing dog Bandit. And when I’m not working you will likely find me on a tennis court trying to make up for all the years I spent with my head in the books.
